Challenge Accepted! The Importance of Beachbody Challenge Groups
At some point or another, we have all been at the point in our lives where we want to make some changes. Sometimes they are physical changes, while other times are more internal.
When we begin to make these changes, it can be such an exciting time and sometimes we even begin to see results right away!
But after the all of the bells and whistles of starting your transformation have passed, what will keep you on track to see the entire transformation through? What will be that constant remind to put in the work to make the changes you need?
Let’s take a look a New Year’s resolutions. There are countless changes that people want to make in their lives for the upcoming year. Starting them is definitely not an issue, in fact it is very common in popular culture.
But how many people actually stick with it?
Of the people who start a New Year’s resolution, roughly 28% of them quit within the first week and almost 50% of them quit within the first month!!!
So why is making (and maintaining) change so hard?
The good news is that I can answer this easily, because I might as well have a PhD in failed resolutions.
To examine why this is so hard I don’t have to look any further than doing a little reflection on the problems that I have had.
The two major areas that seem to be my downfall are motivation and accountability. Time and time again I have started different workout programs or diet plans only to lose motivation or take shortcuts due to a lack of accountability.
So I needed to do something that had these things built in.
The perfect fit for me was a Beachbody Challenge Group.
How do Challenge Groups Work?
Joining a challenge group is a pretty simple process. After I purchased my first Beachbody Challenge Pack, I had access to the free My Challenge App, which hosts challenge groups. I joined my coach’s group right when I started Beachbody and the difference it made in my life was amazing. I simply joined the group, entered all of my measurements, and uploaded a picture to serve as a baseline.
Then it was time to get started.
Once I began my workout program, each day I would log my Shakeology as well as the workout I did for that day. It is common place to post a picture as well to show the work I put in for that day. While I was doing this, others in my group were all doing the same thing. The app notified me if I hadn’t logged things in for that given day, in case I got busy and forgot to log my information for the day.
Challenge groups can vary depending on the type of challenge group or the length of the challenge group. Theme based groups that are centered on specific programs usually are as long as the duration of the program. Some groups are mixed and the duration can vary.
Why Challenge Groups are so Awesome!
As I mentioned before, motivation and accountability are my two weakest areas in regards to making changes in my life.
I made the commitment to lose weight and eat healthier for my family. Anything for my family is usually motivation enough but you can never have too many sources of motivation.
One of the best parts about the challenge groups is the motivation it provides. I can try to push through a workout program and diet all by myself, but having the support of a group proved to be the game changer. Getting motivation from a coach post each day is fuel to keep you going. As a former athlete, coaches always served as a source of motivation, so the coach concept is brilliant by Beachbody!
Seeing other members of the challenge group working hard and fighting through their workouts is also a great motivator! Knowing and seeing others complete something makes it seem more achievable on my end. As I moved through my first group, the members started encouraging one another until it felt like a family all working to achieve the same goal together.
Challenge groups are also a great accountability source. By having a daily log for workouts and Shakeology, I was held accountable for doing the things I signed up for.
If I didn’t log in my work, it was recorded. Also, the idea that others are doing the work holds me accountable to do my part within the group.
It is also common to show and record results at the end of the group. Completing a challenge group and having results to show holds people accountable and of course serves as a great motivator!
